Web Marketing

Posted: October 2, 2001

Experts agree that most small business owners have too little money invested in web marketing. In fact, with over 100 million people using the Internet every day in the United States alone, web marketing should represent a much higher portion of your average small business owner’s budget than it does today.

But most business owners are under-invested in all marketing, let alone online. Many people believe that it will be nearly impossible to target the niche of customers that their business is looking to attract, and that therefore much of their advertising dollar will be going down the proverbial drain.

Historically advertising has not amounted to much more than an ad in the paper or the yellow pages, or maybe a TV spot. Most of the time, small business owners just hope that a choice location and that old standby “word of mouth” will set them on the ground running.

But the sad fact is that the businesses that invest in web marketing are often the ones that succeed. This is because online investments can now be focused directly towards the customers you want. This new form of advertising is called “search-based” and it is available to all businesses, both big and small.

Say that you run a very small company that offers guided river rafting tours of the rivers of Oregon. What if any time somebody put in “Oregon” or “river” into their favorite search engine, then your advertisement would come up.

This is exactly what is possible with the modern tools of web marketing. This new technology geo-targets the exact customer that you are looking by using the Internet’s most powerful tool, the search, and then marketing your company directly to the people who are most likely to buy your goods and services.

No matter what your company’s size or interest, web marketing can increase your consumer base by as much as you want, based solely on the popularity of the Internet as a research tool

Do not be the last person in your sector to embrace the new technology of web marketing. Setting up a search-based advertising system today is the best way to stay ahead of the competition and ensure that your small business is here to stay.
