Nursing Home Marketing

Posted: February 7, 2002

When we get old we all hope that someone will be there to help us in our waning years. In some cases we have done well enough to make sure that we can stay at home, hiring help when needed. In other cases it is our children who pick up the brunt of the care. Sometimes it is impossible to stay at home, or to stay with out children. In these cases it is sometimes best to move into a nursing home, where there are people trained to help us on hand 24 hours a day, and people our own age to interact with when we feel like it.

For the men and women who run nursing homes, it is a business priority that people reaching their post-retirement age know about the existence of their nursing homes. In many cases, there are a number of options for care available to senior members of a given community, so it can be difficult to choose between them.

This is where online nursing home marketing comes in. Making sure that your nursing home is seen by the community that makes the industry possible is imperative.

But in many cases it can be difficult to know where to begin advertising your nursing home.

Seniors often are extremely well informed, and there are often newspapers catering directly to their needs. In Florida, for example, there are several papers that contain content written with older members of the community in mind. These newspapers are often looking for advertising, and when marketing your nursing home they can be a great place to start.

Also, it is important to remember that, unfortunate as it may be, it is often the children of the elderly that are the ones searching for a nursing home. Marketing directly to the children is a very worthwhile option, although it can be difficult to portion off this section of the community in order to focus your nursing home marketing dollar.

With the Internet becoming more and more prevalent every day (with 100 million users per day in the United States alone), seniors and their children alike are extremely likely to turn to the Internet as their first stop on a search for a nursing home.

Marketing to this segment is now entirely possible, with search-based online advertising. Imagine if you will, a man in his mid fifties, living in the community where you operate, looking into finding a nursing home for his father. What if his Internet search for “nursing home Anytown USA” could come up with your advertisement directly. That kind of exposure just is not possible with any kind of current advertising technique.

Remember, focusing your search on the target audience is crucial to making your advertising dollar count. Internet searches represent the best way to market your nursing home.
