SES San Jose is always one of my favorite conferences of the year. The proximity to Google, Yahoo, and Silicon Valley always make it quite the event (and everyone wants to attend the Google Dance).
If you’ve only been to the NYC or Chicago Search Engine Strategies show, it’s a completely different conference.
SES NYC = Madison Avenue
SES San Jose = Silicon Valley
SES Chicago = Die hards (it’s in December in Chicago)
I’ll be in San Jose speaking at the Creating Compelling Ads panel on August 21st.
You can see some of my older presentaions here.
If you’d like to register, or find out more info, here’s the home of SES San Jose.
The first SEO Class was very successful. The feedback was excellent, and we’re happy with how the day went. We’ve officially partnered with Webmaster World for the next show which is coming back to New York on July 30th-31st.
The speakers are:
- Michael Grey
- Todd Mailcoat
- Greg Niland
- and myself
Feel free to visit the SEO Class website, view the agenda, or better yet, register.
There’s also a discussion on Webmaster World about the next class.
Hope to see you there.
SMX was a very enjoyable conference. It was a nice mixture of being as laid back as Pubcon, yet had more corporate attendees similar to SES. One day I’ll do a full write up about the conference, but for now, it’s presentation time.
I spoke on the ‘Pump Up Your Paid Search’ panel. which was billed as: Tips and techniques designed to help pros get even more out of their paid search campaigns. Ben Perry from iProspect spoke about general tips to improve campaign performance. Matt Wagner from Find Me Faster did a fantastic (and funny) presentation on Dynamic Keyword Insertion.
Myself? I spoke about day parting (in the Google world it’s called Ad Scheduling). Day Parting is the changing of bids, or pausing of keywords, based upon time of day or day of the week.
Below is the presentation. If your browser doesn’t support mht files and iFrames, the PDF download link is below the presentation.
Enjoy.

Four industry guru’s Greg, Todd, Michael, and Rae, have created an in-depth SEO workshop to help share their wealth of knowledge about SEO and best practices.
I’ve recently joined the team to cover PPC marketing.
The agenda is pretty robust, with the current topic mix consisting of:
- Content Creation
- Organic and Paid Link Building and Management
- Research Techniques
- Social Marketing

- Tools
It should be an exciting and knowledge-filled day.

We just finalized the dates for the next Google AdWords Seminars for Seattle and Denver.
We will be in Denver on February 27th at the Embassy Suites Hotel Denver-Aurora.
The Seattle seminar will be held on March 1st at the Embassy Suites Seattle - Bellevue.
The latest two seminars in Charlotte and Washington DC were quite a success. The audiences were wonderful and had some very insightful questions.

Pubcon Vegas 2006 was a great success. Thank you to everyone who attended, and for all the great comments I’ve heard about both speaking and moderating.
Below is the AdWords Quality Score Presentation. The basic premise is that there is not a single magical quality score formula that is used throughout your entire AdWords account. It is really different formulas (or parts of the formula) depending on what is being calculated (i.e. Landing page quality score is used for ‘Minimum Bids’ but is not used for ‘Ad Rank for Search Quality Score’).
I plan on writing a series of articles to go though the different types of quality score and how they are created.
Enjoy.
The first three seminars we did went exceptionally well. The turnout, discussion, and breath of knowledge covered left almost everyone with a wide range of new ideas to implement for their AdWords campaign.
We’ve extended the initial trial past just Chicago, New York, and Miami to also include a west coast tour: Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The AdWords Seminars are a wonderful place to learn more about AdWords, find new ways of expanding or targeting your campaigns, or just ensure you are walking down the correct path.
We will be in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 8th at the Manhattan Beach Marriott.
We will be in San Francisco on Friday, November 10th at the Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf.
Please visit the AdWords Seminars for Success page to learn more about the AdWords Seminars.
