Nice Article - I particularly liked deleting the ad to get a new landing page update from Google. I wonder if after you have killed the old ad, created a new ad to get a new quality score assigned, you could recreate the old ad and inherit the history for the keyword / ad combination again.

Excellent article!
One point I should make though. There seems to be some confusion about the meaning of "Sitemap". When Google says "Submit a Sitemap", they aren't referring to a sitemap page on your web site. They're referring to an XML file that lists the pages on your site, and is used by Google as a shortcut method of re-indexing your site. It's effectiveness is still open to question, since Google Sitemaps is still in beta.
So you don't need to add a sitemap page to your site with navigation links to it. Just join up for Google Sitemaps and submit a compliant sitemap XML file.

Having made the above comment, I didn't want to suggest that a sitemap within the web site is of little value. Google encourages its inclusion.
I just want to clarify Google's meaning of "Submit a sitemap". Let's hope I haven't caused even more confusion :-)

Just to clarify. For this study, we created an onpage site map.

There is a Google program that is also called site maps (now renamed to Webmaster Console) which can be found here:
www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps

The Google sitemaps is an XML feed which informs Google about your website.

Do you think putting the Adwords keywords into the meta tags will have any effect? I was wondering if it will help, but concerned that my competitors can easily come along and find them all there in one big list! Did you already use them or not?
