Don’t let someone buy or rent your AdWords Account!

Posted: February 8, 2007

I’ve recently heard more and more rumors of people offering to buy or rent inactive AdWords accounts.

The qualifications are usually that the account must have been active for 3-6 months, that it must have spent $xx, or that it has an average CTR of over 5%. While the qualifications differ, they are always around speculating that the account will have a nice quality score from which to work.

First off, if you ‘rent’ your account - then you’re still responsible for it. While they might add their credit card instead of yours (remember, you can’t remove a card, you can replace the information or add a backup card - but someone has todo this), you are ultimately the one who signed up and are responsible for the spend.

Secondly, if they break the TOS, it’s your account that will be banned - not theirs. While banning is rare, when it happens, it can be extremely difficult to reactivate that or another account. Google doesn’t ban people without very justifiable causes, so their policy teams are pretty strict with re-inclusion as well.

Thirdly, don’t you have to ask yourself why someone else wants your account? If it’s that good - why aren’t you using it to its fullest potential.

So, next time someone offers to just buy or rent your AdWords account - just say NO!
