AdWords shows more content network visibility
April 14, 2007
You can now see which websites have sent you traffic from Google’s content network.
This has been one of my top requests for a couple years now. The program is still in beta, but hopefully it will come out of beta into the mainstream soon. Hopefully, this visibility will also be available on the search network in the near future.
Google is testing a new report type called the Placement Performance report so advertisers can view performance metrics for ads that may be running on URLs or domains within our content network.
Google has always provided full online statistical, conversion, and financial reporting for the Google AdWords program. Now with the Placement Performance report, you can gain greater transparency about your campaigns’ performance on the content network for the first time. This report is intended as a tool for you to make informed decisions on improving your campaign’s return on investment.

AdWords Recommending Video Creation Vendors
April 14, 2007
When one logs into their account, you can now search for video creation vendors.
It’s a quick 3 step process.

One can sort by:
- Budget
- Turnaround time
- Voiceover
- Content library
- Live actors
- Rights managment content
- Music
- or evern on-location filming

I’m not sure what it takes to bcome a marketplace vendor, however, this shows how much Google really wants to push video ads.

Microsoft adCenter and Superpages to use Quality Score
April 11, 2007
Quality score is becoming more and more prevalent across PPC engines as they wish to ensure a good user experience.
Superpages is launching a quality score system within the next month.
Microsoft adCenter is going to launch a quality score system that also includes landing pages within the next couple of months.
It difficult to say yet if these will be as complex as Google’s quality score.
It’s time to look at the bid management system’s on the market and have them start flagging for instances of ‘don’t increase your bids, go examine your quality score’.
Just because you call it viral doesn’t make it so.

I received an email from Atari today telling me about new viral videos on YouTube.
I found this amusing, as Atari was already labeling videos as viral like it was a given. A look at the YouTube ratings for this video, shows that 10 people have rated the video and under 4k have viewed it in the first 24 hours since launch.
That’s not very viral when you consider YouTube’s potential traffic.
I wonder if labeling it viral hurt its credibility as it sounds like a marketing campaign and not customer engagement.

Are you marketing or advertising? Yes, there is a difference.

It’s quite easy to look at all of the features for ad delivery on a PPC engine and begin to examine all the ways you can deliver ads.
However, delivering ads is advertising. It’s making sure people see your message.
Marketing is about the message.
It doesn’t do a lot of good if people see your message but don’t connect with it.
My latest Search Engine Land article goes through three way to connect with consumers by taking PPC advertising features and using them to deliver tight marketing messages through those features.
Hope you enjoy the article.
AdWords Quality Score Ranges
April 10, 2007
I’ve received a lot of feedback for extending Quality Score Week into a s second week. So here goes, let’s examine the quality score and minimum bid ranges.
Google now displays three quality scores within your AdWords account: Great, OK, Poor. Listed below is the minimum bid range for those displayed quality scores as well as the incremental prices for minimum bid ranges.
Below is the breakdown of those ranges.
| Quality Score | Minimum Bid Range |
| Great | $0.01-$0.05 |
| OK | $0.06-$0.30 |
| Poor | $0.40 and up |
I looked through several million keywords, and did not see minimum bids between 0.30 and 0.40 in either US dollars or Euros). It appears that there is a range of how minimum bids increase.

Google Offering $400 Discounts on Audio Ads
April 9, 2007
It looks like Google is finally pushing Audio ads past the beta launch into a more expanded invite program.
The initial program is offering $400 in free audio ads to try them out. That’s quite a discount, and it looks like they are trying to get people to try out a medium that many internet only companies haven’t ventured into.
It will be interesting to see how well these audio ads are adopted by a search based audience.
